How many of you get overwhelmed? Needing to know the ending of your story or whether or not you will be successful, before you even take the first step? I just want to encourage you today that God, the author of our stories, has already promised us a Victory. Victory in HIM and THROUGH him. And he will use you whether you think you are ready or whether you think things are good or perfect enough to be used.
Matthew 25 says “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
It continues on to say in Matt. 25:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
If we are seeking him and his word, we can walk with confidence that the next step, and the next step, and the next step will be rooted on a firm foundation. My childhood through up until a few years ago had been rooted in what was tangible, what I could see, or what I could control. But God has pushed me to LET THIS GO. And, whoever said being a Christan is boring, or that God does not want us to have fun is sorely mistaken!
God is full of joy, excitement, & spontaneity. And he wants to give it all to us. The verses that used to comfort my anxious mind, now have a completely new meaning to them. Before, I used to CLING to the words for hope that someday I would no longer suffer from anxiety or panic attacks. But reading the verse over and over did not transform me. It was taking steps to release control first. But wait… releasing control to what? It’s not out into the “universe” it’s OVER to a living, all knowing and all powerful God. An actual person, Jesus, who is alive today and promises freedom from sin (everything that separates us from him and/or burdens us in this life i.e my need for control & anxiety).
Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit, transforms our minds so that we see things the way he wants us to see them. So we can have confidence in the power of hope we profess. That Jesus has the victory and has an amazing plan for our lives if we can just look up for a moment from our fleeting, mortal lives. He wants to give us life. So now when I read the verse, like in Matthew, it’s not through a state of panic, but an Amen… there is life and living to be had not panic and paralysis. Cling to him, he who created you, therefore knows and LOVES who you are and who he created you to be.
I have let go of worry, anxiousness, needing to control the future, in exchange for excitement, and a ride full of joy & peace. I have been a “Christian” my whole life and I have finally been able to experience all that I had been missing because I was not surrendering… letting go. I stopped trying to figure it all out and because God knows our hearts and our hurts we can trust him.
Sin is that something that keeps us from truly experiencing God and what he has for us. Whether it is jealousy, selfishness, or greed… it grieves him deeply seeing his creation, those he loves, living a cheated life. We are CHEATING ourselves from all the blessings he has stored up for us. He is ready and waiting to be in a relationship with us; where he not only has our backs, but our front, sides, head & toes. And when the storms of life hit, because they will, he promises to be the strength to get us through, IF we are trusting in him.
