Some of my favorite memories growing up include trips to my Grandparents hunting cabin. It was an escape with two of my favorite people. We had camp fires, tree swing, bow & arrows, woods to explore, and of course an outhouse. We would go every summer, maybe more.
My Grandma LOVED hummingbirds. She would have multiple feeders sitting outside the window of their cabin. I sat with her many times. She would always have her hands wrapped around a warm cup of coffee. Steam collecting right above the surface. We would watch and wait… when they came it was magical. They were beautiful.
It was not until recently, probably within the last 3 years, I started to think more about hummingbirds. I love symbolism and found that Hummingbirds symbolize joy, playfulness, love, healing, and being present. Their wings move in the shape of a figure 8 which symbolizes eternity. Their flight patterns, including their ability to fly backwards, symbolize resiliency, adaptability, and not getting stuck in the past. Hummingbirds are the best representation of how I want to live life.
Did you know that a relationship with Jesus can give us the same things!? It may be a cheesy and loose association BUT nonetheless a fact. When our GOAL becomes to genuinely know Him, to BE like Him. To meditate on His movement and His love for us. Experiencing Him in real life is magical, transformative and healing. Through HIS strength we can tap into endless resiliency. Jesus can change and adapt ANYTHING negative into something positive for those who love him! And what better home to look forward to than an Eternity in Heaven.
He even reminds us in Matthew 6:26 to “look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of MORE value than they? Which of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life.” Jesus is constantly trying to draw our attention to him, to trust, to be present, TO BE FREE.
Jesus can even be lighthearted and have a sense of humor. Sometimes we have to sit and be patient for moments to happen and other times they are packaged and right in front of us to pull off the shelf. Jesus is PERSONAL. In the details. He is ALWAYS speaking. Are you slowing down enough to catch him moving? Are you taking in the warmth of the mug and smelling the coffee…
